A lot of people see millennials as out of touch and privileged when it comes to being adults.
But is it really our fault that we didn’t learn any of the basics growing up?
It turns out that the problem is actually very common. So common that many of us are taking classes to learn life skills like cooking, budgeting and time management, both in person and online.
Why are we doing this? Because parents and teachers pretty much forgot to teach us the fundamentals.
the practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks.
“it feels really good to take a step back from adulting and have someone else cook dinner for me”
If you’re like me there’s probably a few of the basics you never learned.
This is my dream adult scenario.
- I understand my finances.
- I wake up early (everyday).
- I wear yoga pants and actually go to yoga.
I think I’m old enough to be an adult, right?
Luckily I figured out the food part.
So, if you want to take your ‘adulting’ score up a few notches, here’s an easy win in the kitchen.
Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to preheat the oven or cook chicken. I understand- my boyfriend almost killed himself boiling water.
But for right now let’s just start with something that doesn’t drain your wallet or time…
Don’t worry, it’s simple and only uses 4 ingredients:
- extra virgin olive oil
- salad (yes, that’s the green stuff that comes in a bag lol)
Next time you go to the market, just pick up a bag of your favorite greens and 2 lemons for the week.
Then before you make your next meal you can just:
- Cut a wedge of a lemon. (keep the rest in the fridge in a stasher bag or ziploc)
- Drizzle olive oil over the greens (about 1 second)
- Squeeze the lemon over the greens.
- Add a tiny pinch of salt.
Now you can eat your vegetables like your mom told you to (or never told you to).
Once you get this going consistently or you wanna really show off for Instagram you can try and make a Serbian Chopped Salad. Here’s my take on the salad: https://youtu.be/45iNTgfVWRA
P.S.S: Where do you wish you ‘adult’ score was higher?
