Turn on your Grill! Summer is officially here!
Today Connor and I did burgers- 4 ways. The Classic, Juicy Lucy, Smashburgers, and Turkey Burgers. If you want to find out what a Juicy Lucy is, check out Connor’s page @connor.cooks
Thank you Connor for another fun grill session and teaching us your pro burger techniques. I loved learning the Smashburger!
I made a Turkey Burger 2 ways: one in classic fashion and the other in Smashburger fashion. I added a few ingredients to spruce up otherwise boring turkey. If you’re using just ground meat, Connor recommends just seasoning with salt because meat has good flavor on its own.
I wanted grill outside but grilling turkey directly on the grill is tricky business and I don’t recommend it.
Instead, I used a cast iron skillet on top of the grill with a little oil. It worked perfectly and the burgers didn’t stick. It’s good too because you can close the grill to act like an oven and cook it slower. It also takes on the grill flavors too.

Below is my recipe for these juicy, clean eating, high-protein turkey burgers!

My Go-To Burger Recipe
for 1lb. of Turkey
.
(Makes 7 mini burgers)
.
Burger ingredients:
• 1 lb. lean ground turkey (I use 93% lean)
• ¼ cup chopped parsley
• 1 jalapeño, minced
• 1 garlic clove, minced
• ¼ red onion, chopped
• 2 egg whites (or 1 egg)
• 1 tsp salt
• For fixings: avocado, buns, lettuce and tomato
• A little oil for cooking
Directions:
1. In a bowl, mix all burger ingredients together. The mixture will be very sticky but this makes a juicy burger. Trust me! If it’s too hard to work with, add 1 T or two of breadcrumbs.
2. Form into patties. Cook on a lightly oiled skillet for a couple minutes or until golden brown. (I cooked them on a cast iron skillet on the grill. Don’t grill directly because they fall apart.)
3. When the edges start to turn white on the burger, flip and cook for another 3-5 minutes on low heat.
4. Cover the grill if you’re cooking on a grill. Cook until juices run clear. The best way to test is break one open to see or use a thermometer. Cooked turkey should read 165 F.
5. To plate up your burger, get your bun (or lettuce wrap) and top with slice of tomato, lettuce and avocado slice. 🍅🥬 🥑
Nothing better than handheld grilled food for summer days! Enjoy🌞🌴
