Smoothies for Super Tuesday: Blueberry-Banana, Orange Creamsicle, Dunkin’ Donuts Smoothie, & Green Apple Smoothie

My boyfriend had this great idea to make smoothies for SUPER TUESDAY. That’s the day that a few
states were voting, including California.

The candidates for the Democratic party were Michael Bloomberg, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders.

So, I made some simple smoothies that are inspired by their favorite foods or representative of where they’re from.

The smoothies came out really tasty and aside from political views, I hope you enjoy these 4 simple recipes.

I did a poll on Instagram of the favorite and this was the order that came out. The top two were very close!

  1. Bern Berry Smoothie (Blueberry-Banana)
  2. Orange Zest Creamsicle (Biden)
  3. Dunkin’ Donuts Pink Smoothie (Warren)
  4. Green Apple Smoothie (Bloomberg)

All smoothies make about 1 generous cup and a half. I guess you could call it a small meal replacer.

Bern Berry Smoothie

Dedicated to Bernie because he named this as one of his favorite smoothies

  • 1 banana (frozen, best)
  • 1 ½ cups frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup Vanilla yogurt
  • 1 T honey
  • ¼-½ cup milk (or non-dairy)
  • ¼ cup crushed ice

For garnish:

  • Whipped cream
  • a few frozen blueberries

Blend and add more milk or ice to get to desired consistency. Add a handful of spinach if you want to pack it with more nutrients. It wouldn’t change the taste too much, just the color.

Orange Zest Creamsicle (Biden)

Dedicated to Biden because his favorite drink is Orange gatorade and he loves ice cream and oatmeal cookies. I finished it off with some orange zest and chocolate because he’s from Pennsylvania, the same state where Hershey’s from.

This is not a healthy one, (more like a milkshake) but a great after dinner treat.

  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup crushed ice

For garnish:

  • Orange zest
  • Crushed up chocolate (I used Mexican chocolate and it had great texture)

Blend and add more milk or ice if needed. You can also add some orange zest if you want a more orange flavor and color. Top with the zest and chocolate. Enjoy immediately.

Dunkin’ Donuts Pink Smoothie (Warren)

Warren is supposedly notorious for getting donuts delivered to her people. She even got donuts delivered when she was trying to get an anti-gun law passed. Bribe with donuts. She claims that her favorite is the pink Homer Simpson’s donut with sprinkles. I was really happy with how this one came out, but let’s be real, anything with sprinkles on it looks good. And, it reminds us of good times as a kid.

  • 1 banana (frozen, best)
  • 1 ½ cups frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup Vanilla yogurt
  • 2 T honey or agave
  • ¼-½ cup milk (or non-dairy)
  • ¼ cup crushed ice

For garnish:

  • Whipped cream
  • Sprinkles

Blend and add more milk or ice to get to desired consistency. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles. This is a family pleaser for sure.

Green Apple Smoothie (Bloomberg)

Last but not least, the green smoothie. This one is dedicated to Bloomberg because he put a ban on soda over 16oz. Eventually, they ruled against it so you can still get your supersize sodas in New York. I also added an apple because his time as mayor for New York, also known as “the big apple”.

This smoothie is perfect for the morning or an afternoon pick-me-up. Its full of spinach so I never feel guilty drinking this tasty one. It’s not as sweet as the others either so it’s a great way to get more fruits and vegetables into your day.

  • 1 banana (frozen, best)
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 green apple, chopped up (skin on is okay)
  • ½ cup Vanilla yogurt
  • 2 T honey or agave
  • ¼-½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup crushed ice

For garnish:

  • Fresh orange slice

Blend all ingredients and add more orange juice or ice to get to the desired consistency. Top with an orange slice off the side of the cup.
